Live a Generous Lifestyle with a Renewed Mind
Friends, when I slow down and really reflect on the powerful truth that God gives us about sowing and reaping, it stirs up so much faith in my own heart. God multiplies what we release, not what we keep. That simple sentence has changed the way I think about generosity.
Imagine this: if I have a single watermelon seed and place it on the counter, nothing will ever come from it. It will just sit there. It has potential, but untapped potential produces nothing. The seed is designed to be placed in soil, covered, and used to multiply.
Now picture this: You plant that one seed this spring. Out of that little seed, you will get more than one watermelon. You might get several. And just think of how many seeds are inside each of those watermelons. Now it gets exciting!
Next, you harvest the watermelons and open them. Suddenly, you have many, many seeds that came from that one little seed. And if you take all of those newly harvested seeds and plant them the next spring, think of the abundant harvest that would result! One seed produces a whole harvest, and that harvest contains countless future harvests inside of it.
When we release something back to God, he will do the same thing with it! He is not a God of addition. He is a God of multiplication.
Now this is where it becomes deeply personal. What is true of the seed is also true of your finances, your time, your encouragement, and your obedience. If I leave something sitting on the counter or in a bank account and never release it, how can God multiply it? He only multiplies what is sown. Scripture says that God supplies seed to the sower, and He multiplies the seed that is sown.
We read in Malachi that God connects His promise to use what we release to the spiritual discipline of tithing and offering. God boldly says,”Test me in this and watch what I will do.” He actually invites us to trust Him and see His faithfulness. He attaches a promise to our obedience, not because He needs anything from us, but because He delights in blessing His children who honor Him.
Holding back from fear blocks the blessing. I have lived that. I know what it feels like to want to hold on tightly and control outcomes. But every time I release, I step back under the covering of His abundant provision. When our minds are fully renewed, and our spirits are aligned with God's, generosity just pours out. We want to give because we trust His Word.
And generosity is not just about giving. It is a posture of the heart. Would you like to learn more about how generous living and thinking can transform your faith? Join me by watching our latest episode, Be Generous Always and in All Ways..
