Fillers Never Satisfy

Can we talk about the mid afternoon moment when you feel empty? Not just physically, but spiritually. We feel that quiet ache that says, I need something

And without even thinking, we reach for a quick fix. A little scroll time. A little distraction. A little shopping. A little snack. A little something to take the edge off. Anything that promises relief.

I want to say this with so much tenderness – I get it.  I have been there too.  In the episode titled Jesus, The True Source | Rooted for Life Part 4, I share what I have learned and use an analogy that keeps coming back to me. Fillers are like grabbing a snack that tastes good but does not nourish you. They quiet the craving for a moment, and you feel good for a second, but then the hunger comes back more fiercely. Snacks never satisfy.  Sometimes, you even feel worse. Not necessarily because you did something horrible, but because that thing you grabbed was never meant to sustain you.

Fillers do the same thing to our souls that snacks do to our bodies.

They promise comfort, yet they create more craving. They promise escape, but they quietly deepen the emptiness. And the deeper places in you were never meant to be satisfied by shallow wells.

Jesus does not offer a temporary boost. He is the source of satisfaction. He is living water. He is the only One who can reach the deep places in you, steady you, and actually satisfy you. And when you drink from Him, you do not just survive, you begin to feel nourished from the inside out.

In John 4:14, Jesus tells a heart broken and lonely Samaritan woman, “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”

So here is my question for you: Where do you turn when you feel empty? Where does your mind go first when you feel the ache, the stress, the loneliness, the pressure, the fatigue?

I am not asking that to shame you. I am asking because your answer reveals what you are reaching for to feel comforted.

If you have been drinking from the wrong wells, again, there is no shame here, just an invitation. Come back to the Source. Keep it simple. Pray, read the Word, and worship.

Start there. Stay there. Do not stray from there. You do not have to complicate your way back to Jesus. You just return.

I’d love to help coach you through the process of returning. Watch the entire episode Jesus, The True Source | Rooted for Life Part 4. Let it wash over you, steady you, and call you back to what is real.

I’m wildly cheering you!
