Pull the Weeds Before They Pull Your Peace

I want to say something gently but clearly: crowded hearts cannot stay deeply rooted.

If you have been feeling spiritually tired, easily irritated, or like you are always in survival mode, it does not mean you are failing at life. It may simply mean there are weeds quietly taking up space in your life that ought to belong to Jesus.

In the newest episode on The Alita Reynolds Show, Two Weeds That Choke Your Spiritual Growth | Rooted for Life | Part 2, I talk about how weeds choke growth slowly and silently. They rarely announce themselves. They just keep you distracted, overextended, and inwardly noisy. And before you know it, you are striving to survive instead of thriving with Jesus.

Jesus warned us about this in the parable of the seed. The worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making us unfruitful (Matthew 13:22).

Friend, that is not a condemnation. That is compassion. God is showing you what is happening so He can heal it.

Some weeds might show up as constant worry.

Some might look like endless scrolling, overcommitting, or even chasing just one more thing you think will finally make you feel secure.

Some might look like pleasures that are permissible but no longer beneficial (1 Corinthians 10:23) because they are consuming  your precious time and dulling your hunger for God.

So here is your simple invitation for this week: release one weed.

Ask yourself, What needs to go so Jesus can be first again?

Then choose foundational disciplines to put in that newly created space: prayer, praise and worship, and the Word. Make these foundations a first thought, not an afterthought.

If you want to dive deeper into this topic with me, watch the entire episode, Two Weeds That Choke Your Spiritual Growth | Rooted for Life | Part 2. Let the Lord show you what is crowding your heart, and then let Him help you pull it out by the roots.

I’m wildly cheering you!

Alita Reynolds
