The Freedom Found in Forgiveness

Hey friends!
Perhaps someone has wounded you deeply, and the very thought of forgiveness feels impossible. Maybe you're carrying resentment that has become a heavy burden, or you're wrestling with the misconception that forgiving means you must return to an unhealthy relationship. Let me gently remind you that forgiveness doesn't require reconciliation or returning to the same level of relationship. You can forgive and still maintain healthy boundaries.
In the most recent episode of The Alita Reynolds Show, I share about a woman who hated her mother, had no desire to forgive her, and yet knew that is what needed to be done to be obedient to the Lord. One of the most challenging yet liberating truths we face as believers is that forgiveness is not a feeling but a choice. If you're struggling with this concept right now, you're not alone, and there's no shame in that struggle. Her powerful story demonstrates something profound: our feelings don't have to lead our decisions. Truth leads, and our feelings follow like a caboose on a train. When we align our choices with Scripture rather than our emotions, we discover something remarkable happens. We begin to heal.
Forgiveness means releasing your resentment to God. It means freeing yourself from the feelings of being stuck that bitterness creates. You release your right to hear "I'm sorry" and your right to get even. This doesn't make the other person right, but it does set you free.
When you forgive, you also reflect the character of Christ. You extend mercy, offer grace, and experience the growth that comes from letting go. This process may not happen overnight, but each step toward forgiveness is a step toward freedom.
I encourage you to watch our complete episode "What if Forgiveness is the Only Way Out?" where we dive deeper into this transformative journey. Remember, you're choosing to look more like Jesus each day, and that choice begins with forgiveness.
I’m wildly cheering you,
Alita
